Marcy Courneya

Marcy began performing at the age of three, blowing kisses to the audience at the end of her recital routine.  From ages nine to eighteen, Marcy was competing in multiple forms of dance, taking home Midwest Regional awards and national awards from Las Vegas.  Marcy has over eight years teaching experience, teaching and choreographing for two dance studios, preparing extensive recitals with stage, lighting, music and costume work, guest teaching for dance and theater companies and R.E.D. Dance Theater, judging dance competitions, and recently working as an instructor for the Moscow Ballet's Prodcution of The Nutcracker in 2008 and 2009.  In 2010, Marcy worked as a choreographer for the Morris Park Players' productions of Cinderella and Annie.  In that same year, Marcy wrote her first play, The Toy Box, for the 2009-2010 City Scape Dance Recital and acted as the co-director for the show.  The following year she finished up her 6+ years with City Scape by writing and directing her second play Circus.  Marcy has a B.A. in English and History from the University of Minnesota.  She has studied extensively the art of writing, drama, plot and character development through the University of Minnesota and The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis.  Marcy strives to achieve a balance with her passion for writing and dance through combining the two in a full rounded theater program.  She believes that the stage is a safe and exciting place that allows the student to create beauty, self-expression, and emotional connection.  Marcy hopes for her students to achieve a self-knowledge and happliness that stays with them for a lifetime.

Ashley Selmer

Ashley Selmer graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance (emphasis in performance and choreography).  She received the Anna R. Nassif Award in recognition of her contributions in choreography while in school.  Ashley's dance training includes hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, modern, African and ballet.  Ashley is now based in her hometown of Minneapolis where she is actively involved in the dance community.  She is currently teaching and choreographing at local studios and theatre schools, performing on stage with local musicians, and appearing in numerous promotional capacities.  In the long term, Ashley hopes to use dance to enrich the lives of local youth through more accessible performances and lessons.

Corey Bozeman

Corey Bozeman began studying dance when he was 13 and has trained with many of the professional teachers in the Twin Cities including: Mathew Janczewski-Arena Dance, Kenna Cottman-Voice of Culture, Edna Stevens, Amy Sackett, Arturo Miles, Erin Thompson, John Munger, Stephanie Shapiro, Pandora, Marcia Chapman, Betsy Maloney, Lara Ciganko and Carol Schwarzkopf.  He attended Main Street School of Performing Arts (M.S.S.P.A), graduating in 2010 with honors and emphasis in dance performance.  Although grounded in traditional dance techniques, Corey has pursued his interest in Hip Hop, winning the title of National Hip Hop Champ 2009/2010 at the Extreme Sport National Competition, as well as National Hip Hop Champ 2010 at the United Performing Association Competition.  Following his high school graduation, he was invited back to his alma mater to both teach and choreograph a contemporary dance piece entitled Twilight for the MSSPA Dance Company.  He continues to study, perform, teach and choreograph in the Twin Cities area with an eye toward the larger national dance scene.

Jenny Peterson

Jenny Peterson began dancing at the age of three.  At six she entered the competition world dancing for Victoria Dance Productions.  She won numerous awards at local and national competitions.  Her training includes classes and workshops by some of the most profuound choreographers in the industry.  She has trained with choreographer from shows such as So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With the Stars.  Jenny has performed locally at events such as Alex's Lemonade Stand, and nationally at Disney World and the Pulse showcase in New York.  She was a member of the 2009 Ignite Dance Company.  Jenny has been choreographing various competition pieces for the past few years and continues teaching locally.

Sarah Bartlett

Sarah Bartlett began her dancing career at the age of 5.  She studied with Minnetonka Dance Theater, Ballet of the Dolls studio, and ended her "student career" under the instruction of Minnesota Dance Theater for 8+ year.  Throughout her years at MDT, she performed in Loyce Houlton's "Nutcracker Fantasy", as well as every MDT student performance, and was also a member of the MDT "Repertoire Ensemble".  After her career at MDT, she again joined forces with the Ballet of the Dolls, this time as a company apprentice.  She performed in various shows, to name a few:  the ever heartwarming "Nutcracker?! Not So Suite" and "Barbarella".  She was there for 3+ seasons.  When not teaching, Sarah can now be seen practicing her passion for flamenco dance, in her first season with Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theater.

Heather Markun-Heard

Heather began dancing when she was 10 years old and started with jazz and youth ballroom.  At 11 years old, she joined the company team "The Opals" here at On Your Toes.  She has been an assistant teacher for two years and this is her first year teaching classes of her own.  This past year, she has overcome a concussion and is back to dancing full time.  She is currently a junior at Washburn High School, trying to obtain college credits while dancing at On Your Toes.  She would like to continue learning more about dance and human sciences in college.  Heather is on the Senior Elite line for the 2011-2-12 competition season and is looking forward to working with her teammates and students.
